A male and two females have been taken into custody in connection with the viral video showing a child being brutally assaulted.
The Welioya Police had commenced an investigation into the video showing the assault, which went viral on social media. However, the suspect had fled the area with the child.
Officers from the Welioya Police, the Mullaitivu Crime Investigation Division and Pulmudai Special Task Force camp managed to trace the suspects to Arisimalai, Pulmudai, from where they were arrested in the early hours of this morning (5). Police also took the 4 1/2 year old child who was the victim of the brutal assault depicted in the video into their care.
The male suspect is 45 years of age while the two females are aged 37 and 46 years. The male was arrested on charges of assault while the females were arrested on charges of aiding and abetting the crime. All three are residents of Kalyanapura, Welioya.
Welioya Police is investigating.
