A resident from Marawila due to return to Italy for employment was thrice-lucky when he escaped three gunshots fired at him by an unidentified person, in the Marawila area, police said today.
The man who escaped was identified as Niroshan Demian, 49, a father of two who had been employed in Italy for the last 15 yeras.
The police say that they have started the investigation based on the statements made by the survivor of the shooting attack.
On Sunday around 8.30 pm, two people on a motorcycle called Damien Fernando, from the road, and as he was coming to the gate he was fired and when running away he was shot at for the second time.
A third shot had been fired at him but it hit a wall of a relative's house nearby. A female relative also narrowly escaped the shooting.
Mr Fernando escaped from all three shots fired at him.
Investigations have confirmed that at the time of the shooting, the wife and children aged 17 and 10 were staying in the house.
Mr Fernando was to return to Italy on the following day.
Investigations are underway.
