A Tunisian national who posed off as a senior official of an international financial institution was arrested today (15) while attempting to smuggle 4.5 kilograms of cocaine valued at 180 million rupees through the Bandaranaike International Airport.
Customs Media Spokesman, Deputy Director (Legal Affairs) Sudaththa Silva stated that a group of officers from the Customs Narcotics Division had arrested the 59-year-old man.
He had also submitted forged documents to the Customs to prove that he had a doctorate and was the head of an international financial institution.
He had first flown from Tunisia to Brazil and then to Doha, Qatar before arriving in Sri Lanka. He had arrived onboard Qatar Airways flight QR-664 at 8.45 am today.
