Twelve Parliament staff members were found to have been infected with COVID-19 following rapid antigen tests conducted at the Parliament premises from 9.00am to 12.00pm today (17), Parliament's Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando said in a statement.
The infections were identified following 275 random rapid antigen tests conducted on MPs, Parliament staff, security personnel and Parliament journalists at the Parliament premises today.
Those found to be infected were serving in different branches in Parliament and CCTV footage is currently being analysed to identify their close contacts and direct them to quarantine, Mr Fernando further said.
Action has already been taken to disinfect the branches concerned.
Given the current situation, a decision has been made to continue with work at the Parliament complex with a minimum number of staff starting from tomorrow (18) until further notice.
