Two Directors of an Educational centre located in Nawala road, Kotte who have been accused of defrauding more than Rs 3,000 million were remanded until November 30 today by Fort Magistrate Thilana Gamage.
They were Directors of Athens International Education Centre which has reportedly collected money from a large number of persons for either sending persons overseas for studies, for investments and other projects.
The two Directors remanded were Dilum Kumara and Medhani Tharanga while the court ordered the Police to arrest the owner Sahan Akalanka, a resident of Polonnaruwa and produce him in courts as well.
Police had carried out investigations based on some 500 complaints received, but more complaints were expected.
The lawyers appearing for the affected parties said that the institution was not registered with the Central Bank and that a large number of persons were cheated. (Manopiriya Gunasekara)
