Two LTTE suicide jackets weighing 5 kilograms were unearthed today while buried under a tree in the jungle at Sinnathampanai in Vavuniya, Settikulam Police stated.
The suicide jackets were unearthed from the jungle near Sinnathampanai tank following intelligence information received by State Intelligence Service (SIS) officers in Vavuniya. They were unearthed with assistance from the Settikulam Police and the Special Task Force (STF).
The two suicide jackets, each weighing 2 1/2 kilograms, were both still useable when they were unearthed as they had been buried securely, police added.
Police believe they were buried securely by the LTTE during the final stages of the war for future use.
Settikulam Police said that they will defuse the two suicide jackets with assistance from the STF once they obtain a court order.
