Two Sri Lankan fishing boats detained by Maldivian authorities while navigating in international waters have been released today, the Fisheries Ministry said.
The fishing vessels IMULA0780CHW and IMULA0710KLT were released due to the swift intervention of Minister of Fisheries, Ramalingam Chandraseker, and the cooperation of Maldivian authorities, the Ministry said.
Furthermore, the Director General of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, S.J. Kahawatta, stated that the Ministry of Fisheries stands firmly in support of Sri Lankan fishermen who engage in legal fishing activities in international waters while adhering to proper navigation routes. "We urge all fishermen to comply with international laws and regulations to ensure their safety and avoid unnecessary legal complications."
The Ministry of Fisheries also extended its gratitude to the Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka and all involved parties for their prompt action in resolving this matter.
