The drivers of a bus and a lorry have been placed under arrest over the deaths of two foreigners in an accident at Gurubebila, Midigama on the Matara-Colombo Road, Police said.
Two foreigners were killed in the road accident on Tuesday (30) involving a bus and lorry. Among the deceased was a Russian male aged 27.
The accident occurred when the tourists’ scooter collided with a bus travelling from Matara to Colombo and overturned. They were run over by a lorry that was passing in the other direction.
Further investigations into the incident are currently being carried out by the Midigama Police.
Mannar residents vowed to continue their protest against proposed wind power projects on the main island despite they came under attack on Friday night (26) when they tried to stop transportation of equipments following Presidential directive to go ahead with the project.
