Two women were killed in separate freak accidents after two trees toppled on to them in the Puttalam district, Police said.
In one of the incident a woman motorcyclist who took shelter under a large tree due to heavy rains was killed when the tree fell on her in the Madampe area today afternoon, Police said.
She was identified as Nisansala Sarojini, 39 a resident of Suriyatenna, Madampe.
The roots of the tree had been loosened due to a road construction project.
In the second incident a woman riding a motorcycle with her father on the pillion was killed in Marawila after a Jak tree fell on her.
Her father was seriously injured in the incident.
She was identified as Ishara Lanka, 36 from Nathandiya.
She was taking her father to hospital when the tree had fallen due to the heavy winds.
