Repairs to Unit 2 of the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochcholai have been completed and the unit has been handed over to the plant's operation section, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.
A CEB official said they believe the unit could be synchronised to the grid by 8.00pm today (15) and loading the unit will take at least another 5 hours.
Once restored, the unit will add 300 MW to the national grid.
Only one unit of the Norochcholai coal power plant has been operational for the past week, with the national grid devoid of 600MW of power usually generated by the 900MW plant.
Unit 2 of the plant suffered a breakdown on August 8 and was taken off the grid. Unit 3 meanwhile, has been inoperative since June 13 after being taken off the grid for scheduled maintenance work. The repairs are due to last 100 days.
