Update: Deshabandu surrenders to Matara Magistrate’s Court

Suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has surrendered to the Matara Magistrate's Court a short while ago.

The Matara Magistrate's Court had earlier issued an open warrant for his arrest in connection with a 2023 shooting incident that took place outside the W 15 hotel in Weligama, which resulted in the death of an officer from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).

The Court of Appeal on Monday (17) dismissed a writ petition filed by Mr Tennakoon seeking an interim injunction preventing the execution of the arrest order issued by the Matara Magistrate's Court.
