Six youth aged 18 members of a WhatsApp group “Geththu Pasanga” (Swag Boys) were arrested for violent behaviour in Vavuniya, the Special Task Force said today.
An 18 year old suspect was arrested on Thursday (January 5) in the Puravasankulam area for possession of illegal drug pills, and upon searching through his phone while questioning, had come across images of swords.
The STF conducted raids on the other members of the WhatsApp group and upon investigation, it was revealed that these members were involved in violent acts in Puravasankulam, Thattankulam and Settikulam.
Accordingly, six 18 year old suspects were arrested with four mobile phones, drug pills, sharp weapons and swords, who were handed over to the Puravasankulam Police station for further investigation.
The raids were conducted by a group of STF officers of the Vavuniya Camp including Inspector A. M. P. N. Adhikari under the supervision of Commander of the Vavuniya Camp Inspector A. R. T. A. Amarasinghe.
