Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today pledged to form a Government devoid of fraud and corruption and comprising skilled personnel to rebuild the country.
He made the comments while addressing Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) supporters at the Galle Face Roundabout at the conclusion of the protest organised by the party against the Government.
Mr Premadasa noted that there are currently long queues to purchase fuel, milk powder, sugar and cement while the Sapugaskanda oil refinery has been shut down for the first time in recent history. "Aren't you fed up of this curse?" he asked the crowd.
SJB supporters and politicians trying to make their way to Colombo from outstations to take part in the protest in Colombo were blocked and turned back by police in many districts today. Referring to these incidents, Mr Premadasa noted that the Government had an Executive President with vast powers under the 20th Amendment as well as a 2/3 Parliamentary majority. "Yet it is afraid of us," he quipped.
