The Attorney General has advised the Acting Inspector General of Police to report facts to the Nugegoda Magistrate Courts regarding the phone conversations between MP Ranjan Ramanayake and Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya.
The AG has written to the Acting IGP that the reports from the mobile service providers have revealed that the conversation took place between a location in Nugegoda and Colombo areas and therefore the facts could be reported to the Nugegoda or Colombo Magistrate courts.
However, since two of the cases are already pending in the Nugegoda courts, the facts related to this case too could be reported to the Nugegoda courts.
This was after the Acting IGP took up the position that the location where the offence was committed had not been clear.
The AG in his letter says that clarification could have been sought from him if there was a doubt about determining the location where the offence had been committed.
The phone conversation relates to an alleged attempt to influence the judiciary.
