The Appeal Court today (Nov 8) issued notice for the Attorney General to appear and assist in the next hearing on February 17, 2020, in a contempt case filed against Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero and three others.

The order was issued when the case was taken up for hearing before judges Yasantha Kodagoda, and Arjuna Obeysekera.

Gnanasara Thero, the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) movement, has been accused of failing to adhere to a court ruling against conducting the final rites of the Gurukanda Rajamaha Viharaja priest at the temple.

During today's hearing, the BBS General Secretary and two police officers attached to the Mullativu division, appeared before court as defendants in the case.

The two-member judge bench issued notice on the Attorney General to appear before court during the next hearing, to ease court proceedings.

Mullaitivu district Parliamentarian Shanthi Sriskantharajah has filed the case.
