The appointment of 454 Health Service Assistants in the Northern province has been halted today after complaints lodged claiming political interference in the process discriminating the volunteer staff who are currently in service for years, Northern Governor office said.
According to Governor Secretariat, District Representatives whose names were not included in the appointment list me the Governor Dr. Suren Raghavan at the Governor's Secretariat this morning. At their request, the list of all the candidates who participated in the interview was submitted. Governor asked them to submit the details within 24 hours if the list is followed by wrong appointments against the structure provided by the Ministry.
The event of issuing of appointment letters to the 454 Health Service Assistants which was to be held at the Chavakachcheri Urban Council Hall this morning has been postponed due to some complaints. Agitated Health Service employees also staged a protest in front of the council this morning urging to resolve the issue amicably.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
