In keeping with the 100 birthday of veteran director Lester James Peries, April 5th is to be declared as National Cinema Day, Minister of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs, Sajith Premadasa said.
In order to declare April 5 as National Cinema Day, an extraordinary gazette has already been issued according to Minister Premadasa . Accordingly, the first Cinema Day celebrations will be held today at the National Film Corporation premises.
Further the Minister told media that in appreciation of the immense contributions by the veteran director towards local cinema, National Cinema Day is being marked in Mr Peries' honour. In addition, a museum and library will be declared open under his name 'Lester' at the National Film Corporation premises.
