The Sri Lanka Army along with the Navy were involved in rescue operations of more than a 1000 people who were left stranded during the floods in Kilinochchi.
Issuing a press release, the Army noted that several helpless individuals were seen on tree tops and other elevated structures due to the rising floods.
The release further noted that several animals were also saved during this rescue operation.
“682 people of 276 families have been re-located in safer locations and troops continue to provide them with cooked meals and immediate medical aids” the release said.
The personnel had also taken measures to clear the Nedunkerni–Mullaweli road, which had been blocked due to fallen trees.
