Eighty-one persons sustained injuries, with 53 being hospitalized, after a head-on crash between two passenger buses near the Lunugamvehera main bus station along the Wellawaya-Matara Main Road this afternoon (12).
The accident occurred between a private bus plying from Matara to Ampara and a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus enroute from Dehiaththakandiya to Galle.
The injured were admitted to the Lunugamvehera, Tissamaharama and Hambantota hospitals. The drivers of both buses are among the injured, police said.
