At least four persons died and 23 reported to be missing from eleven districts including Galle, Gampaha and Badulla due to bad weather conditions, Police said.
Due to heavy rains with strong winds experienced many parts across the country, train services and schools remain closed today. Some of the passenger flights also had to diverted to Mattala Airport due to bad weather condition last night.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology said in its weather forecast that showers or thundershowers will occur most parts of the island today due to depression in the south-west of Sri Lanka has developed in to a deep depression and it is located 200 km away from Colombo. It is expected to develop further and move to the Arabian Sea area..
Very heavy falls (about100-150mm) can be expected at some places in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western and Uva provinces.
Heavy rains and gusty strong winds (about 60-70 kmph) can be expected over the island, and heavy rains, strong winds and rough seas can be expected further in the deep and shallow sea areas around the island too.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
