The Bakery Owners Association refuted claims by Minister P Harrison that wheat flour prices would be reduced with immediate effect.
Agriculture Minister Harrison today (Sept 10) said wheat flour companies had agreed to reduce the prices which had been increased by Rs 5.50 last week.
He said that the decision had been taken during the cabinet Cost of Living Sub-Committee meeting.
The relevant companies have been asked to show cause within three weeks, on the factors which had led to the increase of wheat flour prices, the Minister noted.
However, Bakery Owners Association, President N.K. Jayawardene told Times Online that prices of bakery products would not be revised until they are formally notified about the decision.
"So far, the companies have informed us that an agreement had not been reached to reduce the prices of wheat flour," he claimed.
