A bronze bust of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled at Temple Trees with the release of two commemorative stamps in commemoration of Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, today (Oct 2).
Ram Vanji Sutar, the sculptor of the world’s tallest bronze statue, had produced the 42-inch piece, which was unveiled by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Two special commemorative stamps had also been released by the Department of Posts to mark the occasion.
Ministers Ravi Karunanayake, Navin Dissanayake, M.H.A. Haleem, Sagala Ratnayaka, Deputy Post Master General K. Ranasinghe, and Philatelic Bureau Director K. Meegama were also present.
