A businessman who sexually abused an underage boy was given a 30-year jail term, fined and ordered to pay compensation by Colombo High Court Judge Sashi Mahendra today.
The businessman from Kirulapona had abused the child below 16 years from November 2013 for almost a year.
Senior State Counsel Priyani Abeygunawardena prosecuting pleaded that the highest punishment be given as the child had been severely abused. She said that imposing a severe penalty would pass on a message to persons committing similar crimes.
The judge ordered to pay compensation amounting to Rs. 600,000 and a fine of Rs. 30,000 ruling that failing to pay them would result in extending the jail term by seven and half years. (By Manopriya Gunsasekara)
