The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has submitted a report to the Speaker, on tests carried out by a German-based company confirming that imported milk powder did not contain animal fat.
A sample of imported milk powder had been sent to the foreign company to carry out the tests, the CAA said.
It is reported that the CAA had not approved a request made by the Food Control Unit of the Health Ministry which had sought the report, by stating that it could be handed over to them after being produced to Parliament.
Claims and counter claims were made in Parliament early this year with Deputy Minister Buddhika Pathirana stating that Sri Lanka has been importing aduleterated milk powder which contains animal fat.
However, Health Minister (Dr) Rajitha Senaratne had refuted such claims at that time.
