A mental health policy will be formulated with a strategic framework for the prevention of mental illnesses, healing, rehabilitation and mental health promotion within the community.
The Cabinet has approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Health to formulate the policy.
Under the National Mental Health Policy 2020-2030, strengthening leadership and research activities, provision of extended mental health services, human resource development and empowering the community will be given special focus.
The Minister has stated in the proposal that the previous psychological health policy in Sri Lanka was formulated in 2005 and is in need of updating with current requirements.
