The cabinet and security council meetings were held yesterday due to a personal visit which would be undertaken by President Maithripala Sirisena to Britain tomorrow (Jul 9).
Generally cabinet meetings are held on Tuesdays while the National Security Council meets on Wednesdays.
However, certain ministers had not turned up for yesterday's meeting since they were given short-notice and had been engaged in personal commitments.
Due to this reason, several cabinet papers had been put on hold until next week.
Meanwhile, the Security Council too had met at 7 pm under the patronage of the President.
