Canadian Foreign Minister visits Jaffna

Visiting Canadian Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion, toured the Northern province today and met Northern Province Governor Reginald Cooray iat the Governor's office in Jaffna. 

The discussions centered on the progress of resettling displaced persons in the north. The Governor briefed the Foreign Minister on the steps that have already been taken in this regard. 

Speaking further, the Governor had noted that over 160,000 displaced persons had already been resettled in the north while about a further 12,000 were yet to be resettled. He disclosed that about 2500 acres are due to be set aside to resettle these individuals while private lands will be gradually released back to their original owners.
