The case filed against parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa and six others for organising a protest that inconvenienced the public has been fixed for hearing on August 5 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's court.
MP Weerawansa and six others have been accused of organising a protest in Bauddhaloka Mawatha which had caused severe inconvenience to the public on February 06, 2016.
The protest was held against the arrival of the then UN High Commissioner Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein by the National Freedom Front Party led by MP Weerawangsa, police informed court.
Police charge that the usage of loudspeakers during the protest, without obtaining approval, had affected the activities of the public while also disrupting smooth traffic flow during the protest.
The six suspects in the case are MP Wimal Weerawansa, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Jayantha Samaraweera, Piyasiri Wijenayake, Roger Seneviratne and Mohammed Muzammil.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
