CBK visits Keeramalai housing complex

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Chairperson of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR) inspected the Keeramalai housing project being constructed by the Security Forces last week. At least 100 houses are being built by security forces for the landless people in North.

During a cordial meeting with the Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna Major General Mahesh Senanayake, she was briefed on military involvement in Reconciliation and National Rebuilding programmes and the support being given by the Security Forces for resettlement of displaced people.

A one-stop-shop was opened at the Jaffna District Secretary's office to facilitate investors and entrepreneurs to contribute towards creating economic opportunities and development.

The discussions with the public officials and elected representatives, covered various projects which are ongoing and to be initiated in the upcoming weeks, including: Psycho-social Support Task Force, Bilingual / Trilingual Pool of resources for translations, Special initiatives to targeting Female Headed Households and Conflict Transformation Programme.

The discussions at the District Secretary's office Auditorium concluded after a meeting with representatives of conflict affected women where the day to day challenges as well as personal safety and justice related concerns were addressed at large.

The meetings were attended by the Governor of Northern Province Rejinold Cooray, State Minister of Child Affairs Mrs V. Maheswaran, Provincial Council Members, District Secretary of Jaffna, other District Secretaries of Northern Province, Divisional Secretaries, ONUR Officials and other public officers.
