Central Bank Governor Dr Indrajith Coomaraswamy will vacate his post on December 20 owing to personal reasons, a spokesperson for the Central Bank Chief told Times Online.
"This has nothing to do with politics," the spokesperson said.
Dr Coomaraswamy had tendered his resignation letter to President Maithripala Sirisena on November 2 to give one month notice as required by the law, Times Online learns.
However, the Central Bank Chief had decided to extend his stay from December 2 until December 20 as he had accepted invitations to attend certain local and international events.
Dr. Coomaraswamy is currently attending a finance forum in Singapore, sources said.
It is also learnt that the Governor had planned to resign by June, but had agreed to remain after a request made by the government in view of the economic crisis following the Easter Sunday attacks.
