The Constitutional Council (CC) has approved President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's recommendation to appoint Senior Deputy Solicitor General Sobhitha Rajakaruna as a Court of Appeal Judge.
The post fell vacant due to the appointment of the Court of Appeal Judge A. H. M. D. Nawaz as the Court of Appeal President.
The Constitutional Council meanwhile, recommended the nomination of Leelasena Liyanagama to the vacant post as a Member of the National Procurement Commission, Parliament's Deoartnebt of Communication.
Meanwhile, CC also concurred with the nomination of the President to appoint Sanjeeva Jayawardena, PC. as a Member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka which fell vacant following the resignation of C. P. R. Perera.
The CC met today under the Chairmanship of the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. Council members Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, State Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, Former Opposition Leader Rajavarothiam Sampanthan, Thalatha Atukorale, Bimal Rathnayake, Jayantha Dhanapala and Javid Yusuf were also present.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has interdicted Colombo Fort Magistrate Kosala Senadheera.
The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
