The Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanaratana Thero has requested the IGP to conduct an investigation into the assault on the two novice Buddhist monks in Horowpathana.
The Mahanayake Thero in his letter to the IGP stated that a formal inquiry should be held and action should be taken to prevent such incidents from taking place again.
Further the letter said the incident had caused an unsettling in the minds of the entire Bhikku community and those around the world as well.
The Mahanayake Thero also pointed out that if there was any wrongdoing of the novice monks it is the responsibility of the Bhikkus to discipline them in accordance with the correct teachings and it is for the Bhikkus to correct and not for the laity.
Further the Chief Prelate pointed out that it is the responsibility of the laymen to inform an elder of any Bhikku's wrong doing.
