China reiterates continuing support to revive Sri Lanka's economy

China reiterated once again that it will continue to assist Sri Lanka to revive its economy and overcome difficulties as the country is battling with coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Acting Ambassador and  Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Colombo Hu Wei who met President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday assured that  China will continue to provide all possible assistance within its capacity to Sri Lanka to fight the pandemic.

He also announced the next batch of China Aid, including another 30k test kits, 30k PPEs, 30k N95 masks, 30k protective goggles and 600k surgical masks will arrive into the country in near future.

Acting Ambassador Hu also handed over a list of medical supplies donation by all circles of China to Sri Lanka, along with an experience report ‘China’s Fight Against COVID-19’, emphasizing that China cherishes its relations with Sri Lanka and highly appreciates the firm support from Sri Lanka when the coronavirus broke out in Wuhan, according to a statement released by the Chinese embassy in Colombo.

“The Chargé d'affaires reiterated thatHu stressed that China pays great attention to Sri Lanka’s concern on reviving the economy and overcoming current difficulties. China stands ready to work with Sri Lanka on how to enhance pragmatic cooperation and combat the prevailing challenge together, on the basis of mutual benefits,” the statement said.

Underlining that a friend in need is a friend indeed, the President Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka will never forget all the enormous help from China during its hard times including the civil conflict, post-war development and reconstruction after the Indian Ocean Tsunami.

“Sri Lanka expects further cooperation with China in combating the coronavirus and looks forward to China’s further assistance in Sri Lanka’s economic revival and a comprehensive development of the island nation in the post-pandemic era,” the Chinese embassy in Colombo said.
