Investigations conducted by the CID have revealed that the two businessmen, Manjula Asela and Rasheen Chinthaka, who were abducted in Rathgama, were killed and their bodies burnt, Police said.
Previously the CID arrested an Inspector of Police and Sub Inspector of the Southern Province Special Investigative Unit alleged to have been involved in the abduction of these two businessmen.
The Sub Inspector during questioning had revealed to the CID that the bodies of the murdered businessmen were burnt at the Kanumuldeniya forest reserve at Medagangoda in Walasmulla. Following this information the CID were able to discover the place.
According to Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera the CID have sought the assistance of the Government Analysts Department and the Matara Judicial Medical Office in carrying out further investigations at the site where the burnt bodies of the two businessmen were discovered.
Further investigations are underway.
