Acting Inspector General of Police S.M. Wickremesinghe has assigned the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the theft of 6 firearms from the Laggala Police Station today local media reported.
A T56 rifle and 5 revolvers were stolen from the police station in the early hours today (April 14) by an individual who had opened the locked armory. A Reserve Police Constable (RPC) had been in charge of its key at the time of the theft.
According to the police spokesman, the suspect who had stolen the firearms and had not taken any ammunition. Earlier the Acting IGP had ordered the Senior DIG in charge of Central Province to conduct an immediate investigation into the incident.
