Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) detected 663 cartons of cigarettes worth Rs.4.6 million that four passengers were trying to smuggle into the country.
Director of Customs and Customs Media Spokesperson Dharmasena Kahandawa said the four suspects, all residents of Matale, had arrived in the country on a flight from Doha at about 2.00am today.
The cigarettes were forefited after the Customs inquiry and the suspects were released after being imposed a penalty of Rs.150,000.
