Tomorrow's (Feb 01) independence day rehearsals which were scheduled to be held opposite the Galle Face Green have been cancelled due to complaints being made owing to heavy traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
"We have decided to cancel tomorrow's rehearsals since we received several complaints from the public pertaining to traffic congestions" the Director of the Colombo City Traffic Division told Times Online.
He added that the rehearsals will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 07 am until 02 pm.
Heavy traffic was reported around Fort and Kollupitiya due to the closure of roads opposite Galle Face Green due to the independence day rehearsal's today.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
