Two individuals attached to the National Towheed Jamath (NTJ) group who were involved in propogating extremist Islamic ideologies have been ordered to be detained for 90 days by the Colombo Chief Magistrates Court.
The order was issued following a request put forward by the Police during a hearing today (May 03). The suspects were arrested by intelligence officers before being produced before court.
The two suspects identified as Mohamed Ismail and M.A. Mohamed Niyas were taken into custody with 12 CD's containing extremist content, a laptop, a mobile phone and several other equipment.
Kotahena Police had sought a detention order to be issued on the suspects in order to carry out further investigations. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects were residents of Kattankudy.
