A warrant was issued on Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) member Dr N S A Senaratne for failing to appear before the Appeal Court today (Jun 25).
Court had issued the warrant when a contempt of court case filed againt the SLMC for not issuing medical internships to SAITM graduates was taken up for hearing this afternoon.
Dr Senaratne on whom the warrant was issued, has been named as respondent along with three others who had also not appeared during the hearing. However, court had instructed the other three suspects to appear before court during the next hearing.
The respondents have been accused of acting in contempt of court by not abiding by a Supreme Court order to issue medical internships to SAITM graduates. The case has been filed by SAITM student Dilum Sooriyarachchi.
Justices Achala Wengappuli and Shiran Gunaratne before whom the case is being heard ordered that further hearing on the case has been fixed for July 22.
