The travel ban on Ven Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera was temporarily lifted by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's court today (Jun 7).
During a hearing, Additional Magistrate Kanchana de Silva lifted the Thero's travel ban until August 23.
Gnanasara Thera was barred from travelling overseas for obstructing the duties of two police officers who were on duty at the Welikada Prison in 2017.
Lawyers appearing on behalf of the accused had sought a court order to suspend the travel ban since the Thero had received a scholarship to Japan which was valid until 2020. However, the Additional Magistrate said that the travel ban would only be lifted until the next hearing.
Meanwhile, court also heard that the Police Organised Crimes Preventive Division has concluded its investigations into the allegations against the Thero.
