The court order concerning the bail of two former customs officials accused of releasing confiscated gold will be announced on October 11, the Colombo Magistrate's court said today (Oct 8).
Former Director General Jagath Premalal Wijeweera, and retired additional customs Director General Tharaka Senaviratne, the accused, have been remanded until October 11.
They have been accused of unlawfully releasing confiscated gold for the construction of a statue in the Sandahiru Maha Seya – an enshrinement built in memory of war heroes.
Four charges have been filed under the Penal Code and the Public Property Act against the suspects.
