The Education Ministry has informed the President that the decision to re-open schools for students of Grade 1 - 5 from May 13 will not be revoked under any circumstances, Education Secretary M.N. Ranasinghe told Times Online.
Mr. Ranasinghe pointed out that certain parties have been raising concerns as to whether it is advisable to re-open schools due to posssible threats.
"We have deployed 12,000 army personnel for security purposes across schools. This is in addition to a large number of Police, Navy, and Air Force personnel who were deployed for the same," the Education Secretary added.
He also said that parents will not have to worry about academic sessions of their children since lessons would be taught despite low student turnouts.
