Deepa Uyana park in Polonnaruwa declared open

President Maithripala Sirisena declared open Deepa Uyana Park, built near the sacred city of Polonnaruwa for the relaxation and entertainment of local people yesterday.

Addressing the gathering, President said that everybody has responsibility to maintain this park in a clean and eco-friendly manner. "This park will facilitate local and foreign tourists and it will help enhance the awareness and knowledge of environment among the children," President also extended his thanks to all those who contributed to establish the new park.

Minister John Amaratunga, Chief Minister of North Central Province Peshala Jayarathne, State Minister Wasantha Senanayake, Minister of Agriculture of North Central Province Sampath Sri Nilantha and the District Secretary of Polonnaruwa Ranjith Ariyarathne were among those who participated in this event.

Afterwards, President Sirisena participated in a ceremony to distribute tablet computers to Grama Niladaris in the Poḷonnaruwa district.

These tablet computers were distributed under the ‘Smart Samaja Kawa’ programme under the guidance of the Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure. The President presented tablets to Grama Niladaris and community representatives, from Thamankaduwa, Dimbulagala and Higurakgoda Divisional Secretariat Divisions.

This programme is scheduled to be implemented islandwide covering all the districts with the aim of building tech savvy people. The Chairman of ICTA Chithrangani Mubarak, also participated on this occasion.

Meanwhile, the President opened the renovated Buddha Mandiraya at the premises of the Divisional Secretariat, Dimbulagala Batticaloa Junction, to commemorate the war heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect the Motherland.
