Results claiming to be of postal voting outcomes as circulating on social media have not been officially released to the public by the Election Commission(EC), Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said.
“Counting of postal votes began at 9:40pm at all counting centres. Some centres are in the final phase of finalising the results,” Deshapriya noted in a statement.
Accordingly, he requested the public to remain patient until the results are officially released by the EC.
Meanwhile, the polls chied noted that there could be delays in releasing the results of the Kegalle, Ratnapura, and Badulla districts. This he said was due to minor floods owing to heavy rains in those areas. He said the rains had caused delays while transporting ballot boxes in these areas.
“Therefore, counting of votes in these areas could only begin at 10 pm,” the EC Chairman said.
