Retired Commodore Vishwajith Nandana Diyabalanage, an accused in the Avant Garde illegal floating armoury case, has been arrested upon arrival from Singapore today (Sept 27).
Mr Diyabalange who served as the Head of Avant-Garde’s Maritime Security Division is facing charges along with 12 others, for illegally operating ships carrying a large haul of firearms and ammunition without a valid license, and for providing false evidence over the case.
The accused is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today.
Meanwhile, the three-member trial-at-bar which has been appointed to hear the case, has summoned all accused to receive indictments today.
They face 7,573 charges, filed by the AG, for violating the Firearms Ordinance, Explosives Ordinance, and the Penal Code.
