The Colombo Chief Magistrate's court today (Sept 26) ordered that documents be handed over to investigators, regarding a complaint made against former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa being a dual citizen and engaging in political activities.
Activists Gamini Viyangoda and Prof. Chandraguptha Thenuwara had filed a complaint claiming that Rajapaksa had violated the Citizenship Act and the Presidential Election Act.
Accordingly, an order had been issued to the Hambantota District Assistant Election Commissioner and the Controller General of the Department of Immigration and Emigration to hand over relevant documents to the Criminal Investigation Department(CID).
The investigation had been launched following a complaint received by the CID regarding Mr Rajapaksa being a dual citizen and engaging in political activities in Sri Lanka during the 2005 Presidential Election.
