A driver transporting ballot boxes in a van has been arrested with 58 model ballot papers in Hambantota, police said.
The arrest had been made in the Mulgirigala area when the driver had arrived to handover the ballot boxes to a polling centre, Hambantota District Secretary Bandula Harischandra said.
Police said the model ballot papers were only for display to educate voters, and had not been marked despite having the names of all presidential candidates and their symbols.
The suspect has been identified as a resident of Tissamaharama. Further investigations are underway.
