The Election Commission (EC) says it hopes to convene a meeting with all presidential candidates between 3 – 4 pm to announce the final result of the Presidential election.
Issuing a statement, EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said it will require atleast six hours or more to release all the results.
“The delay was not only due to the long ballot paper but also due to the inclement weather in the Ratnapura, Kegalle and Badulla areas,” Deshapriya stated.
He noted that the EC will be able to release the results only after receiving them from the counting centres.
