News

The Trincomalee police have intensified their efforts to establish the identity of a man whose body was washed ashore near Nilveli in the Eastern Province a few days ago, using information provided on an identity card having a Chennai address.

According to the police, the deceased was said to be aged around 35. The identity card, found two km from the spot where the body was recovered, has apparently been issued by the Chennai Central Call Taxi Association. The name mentioned in the identity card was N. Poomi Durai and the address given was 13/15 N.G.O.Colony, Kamaraj Nagar, Choolaimedu, Chennai 600 094.

A senior official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Indian High Commission had been informed. "We have not received any response from the police stations,” he said. An official of the High Commission, which passed on the information to authorities in Tamil Nadu, said the reply was awaited.
