Eight persons including maths tutor Nuwan Amaratunga have been granted bail after being remanded over the assault of a van driver in Kalagedihena last month.
The suspects had been released on a surety bail of Rs 200,000 each by the Attanagalla Magistrate's court today (Aug 5).
During today's hearing, Magistrate Tharanga Rajapaksa warned the suspects to refrain from threatening any individual who gave evidence against them over the case.
The suspects had been remanded until today over allegedly being implicated in the assault of a van driver after overtaking the vehicle along the Kandy road.
According to CCTV footage of the incident, the assault is believed to have been carried out by some bodyguards of the teacher. The suspects had been travelling in a Defender and a prado jeep at the time of the accident.
Previously, acting inspector general of police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara had instructed the Colombo Crimes Division to conduct an investigation over the incident.
